Wednesday (10/14/09) morning I was at the dance studio with Kaylynn for her dance class. At around 9:15 I got a call from Dr. Blazek saying that my blood pressure the day before at my doctor appointment really had her worried and she wanted me to come in and be induced. I told her I'd be there in about an hour and a half (turned out it took much longer to get there). I called Joe and told him to get home, then called my mom and told her that we'll need her to watch Loren and Kaylynn. After Kaylynn's class, I went home and started to get things ready to go, finished washing Kaylynn's sheets, packed, etc. Then we went and got Loren from school, returned stuff to the library, stopped at Wendy's for Kaylynn to go potty, then finally got to my parents house to drop the girls off. It was about 12:40 when I got a call from Dr. Blazek wondering where I was! I told her we'd be there very soon!!!
I finally got to the hospital around 1:00pm. Dr. Geitmann was still there, so he examined me and broke my water. There was no turning back now!! I quickly started to have contractions and Dr. Blazek said I could have an epidural (even though I was only 1-2 cm). Around 5:00 I got the epidural. Funny story about the epidural...the nurse asked me if a "student" could observe the procedure, and we said that would be fine (thinking it would be a med or college student). Turns out it was a high school student (from BG) taking a pre-nursing class through Harper. The anesthesiologist was talking to her during the procedure, when halfway through, she said "I think I need to sit down, I'm not feeling well!!" So our nurse took her out into the hallway!!! Just kind of funny!!
The epidural took a while to work, they kept giving me more and more of it. Finally around 7 I was completely numb from my belly down!! The nurse checked me at about 7:15 and I was completely dilated already!! That's probably why the epidural wasn't working well!! I started pushing at 7:35 and Eryn was born at 8:17. She was face up, which made getting her out more difficult. Dr. Blazek was impressed I was able to push her out! Yay, me!
She got all cleaned up and I got to hold her and spend some time with her! She nursed really well the right away, I was proud of her! She's already very smart! :)
Once I got to the mother-baby unit, I was feeling rather nauseous. I ended up getting sick, which was unpleasant. I felt better the next morning, which was good because we were having our hospital pictures taken! They turned out great, and I'll post pictures in another post.
That afternoon, our nurse, Teya (who we kind of befriended) came in asking if we'd want to do a photo shoot for the hospital's annual nursing report magazine! Two photographers came in and took a bunch of pictures of us and our nurse! So we got to have more pictures taken! It was a rather fun experience!!
That evening Loren and Kaylynn came to meet their new baby sister! Loren was SO proud to hold her! I can't believe what a big girl she is and how excited she was to see her new sister! While she's not a fan of the name (she says she has a friend named Aaron, so that's confusing for her), she does like her sister. She keeps calling her "the baby"! Kaylynn likes her and likes to give her kisses, but other that that, is rather unimpressed with her for now.
Thursday night Daddy went home to be with Loren and Kaylynn, so Eryn and I got some nice bonding alone at the hospital! Daddy came back Friday afternoon to get us from the hospital and go home! We came home to Loren and Kaylynn anxiously waiting for us and Grandpa excited to meet his newest granddaughter!
That night we had a "movie night" and watched Monsters vs Aliens and had popcorn. It was a fun and relaxing way to spend out first night home as a family of five!!
Below is a link to all the pictures taken at the hospital and from Eryn's first few days at home, including her first bath at home as well as various visitors:
