Kaylynn's Asthma
Wednesday (8/6/08) afternoon Kaylynn started to have labored breathing again, similar to what she had a month ago when she had pneumonia. Our pediatrician office closes at noon on wednesdays, so Joe and I decided to wait until the morning to bring her in. I called first thing thursday morning and brought Kaylynn in to see the doctor. He listened to her lungs and said she was wheezing pretty bad and wanted to do a breathing treatment right away. So we did that and Kaylynn cooperated nicely, but she didn't respond to it and was still wheezing. So he then decided that she probably has asthma. So he wanted to do 2 more breathing treatments and give her an oral steroid. So we did a second treatment which Kaylynn got angry with after a minute, then did the steroid and then did the third treatment, which Kaylynn wanted NOTHING to do with!!! She screamed and kicked and hit! She HATED it! I felt bad for her! But she survived!
So we are now the proud owners of a nebulizer, which we are to use every 4 hours around the clock with albuterol and once a day we use pulmicort in the nebulizer and twice a day (for 4 days) she has a steroid and then once a day she takes singulair. This kid is a walking medicine cabinet!!
We go back to see the doctor again tomorrow for a recheck, so we'll get more information then as to how long these treatments need to happen and answers to some questions we have, which will be good!!
