June 2008...

June has been an interested month...especially the past few weeks. Without school or activities to keep the kids busy out of the house, some days can be rather boring, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate with us!! We have kept semi-busy though. Here are a few "events" that have happened the past few weeks:

Last Thursday (6/19) Kaylynn somehow burnt the tops of her pointer, middle, and ring fingers on the oven. The door was closed, but part of it still gets really hot and she burnt them. She SCREAMED and Joe and I (who were in the kitchen at the time) got her fingers under cold water as fast as we could. She cried for just a couple minutes, then wanted to play in the water! I can't believe how tough she is!! Poor girls had blisters covering the top of her little fingers!! They popped a few days later and are slowly starting to heal!

About a week ago the girls both started with a little bit of a cold. Yesterday morning Kaylynn had a little fever, but I thought it was just because it was warm in the house. So I took the kids to the beach with two neighbor girls, Amanda and Katie. While there, Kaylynn fell asleep on me and while she was sleeping, I noticed her breathing was a little labored and it felt like she was wheezing. So we came home, and I talked to Joe while he was home for lunch, we both decided I should bring her in to the pediatrician. So I took her to the doctor (with Loren and our neighbor, Katie, who I watch on Thursdays). The doctor he heard something in Kaylynn's lungs....it was pneumonia! They gave Kaylynn a breathing treatment and put her on an antibiotic and we have to go back on Saturday morning!! I never would have thought she had that! I felt so bad taking her to the beach that morning!! Oh well, mother of the year, I will not win! :) But today she's feeling better, so she's on a quick road to health!

The girls are also doing swim lessons at a health club by us. This is Loren's second session and Kaylynn's first. Loren is able to put her face in the water and they are trying to teach her how to float and glide with her head in the water. Kaylynn's class is for kids ages about 15-30 months with a parent and is all about getting the children comfortable in the water...a skill Kaylynn already possessed!! She was the first one in the water on the first day of class!! They sing songs and try to get the kids to float a little bit. They both just LOVE swim lessons (and swimming in general)!!!

On Friday 6/20 the girls and I went into Long Grove to meet up with Christine (my "kind-of" cousin) and her 2 kids and a friend of hers at the strawberry festival. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate with us. The kids were able to go on a couple expensive and rather boring rides (which they still enjoyed) before the rain hit hard. Christine and I took the kids to a McDonalds to let them play so we could chat a little bit...as much as we could while chasing two 1 year olds!

From June 15-25 my sister and Chris took a vacation to Hawaii...lucky bastards.....anyway, we got to watch their dog, Guster! We LOVE having Guster at our house!! He is a wonderful dog and the kids just adore him...and I love having him to clean up the food they constantly drop!! We took him for a walk every morning and afternoon!! Loren enjoyed playing with him, they would play almost anything from chase to dress-up!! As many of you know, Loren is OBSESSED with Clifford (the big red dog). She watches the show all the time, and the show often talks about how Clifford was so tiny and Emily Elizabeth's love made him grow so big. Well, Loren said that Clifford "still has a lot of growing to do to be big like Clifford." I told her that I didn't think he's going to get any bigger, but she said that "my love will make him grow!!!" I just thought that was so cute!!!

What else are the kids doing...well, Kaylynn still has a language of her own and she's slowly starting to clue us into a few things! She has her 18 month appointment next Thursday. Yesterday at the doctor, she weighed 22 pounds, but she hasn't been eating much lately. She still LOVES her blankie and carries it around all over. She's also a big fan of her binkies too. I'll update more with Kaylynn's stuff after her appointment next week.
Loren is writing many letters (A, C, E, F H, I, L, O, P, T, U, V, X, and tries really hard to do K and N's, but has trouble with them). Loren can dress and undress herself and is 100% potty trained now!! No pull ups here for a little while!!! About a month ago I decided to try no pull ups at night, and she did great!! I probably could have done it a while ago, but was waiting until it was warmer so she wasn't wearing the "footie" pajamas.

We've been spending as much time outside as we can. I often set up the girls' little pool which they love. We also often take bike rides to different parks and go for walks. The other day, I got a mosquito bite on my knee, which I showed Loren. She then went and told Daddy that Mommy has a "spageeto" bite!!! Too cute!!!

Well, that's the update! Here are a few pictures of the girls from June:

"Nobody will ever find me in here!!"

In the trailer for the first bike ride of the summer! (Kaylynn is ok, her helmet isn't too heavy, she was just looking at something)!!

Playing in the sprinkler for the first time this summer!! As Loren said "The sprinkler is SO MUCH FUN!!!!"

Being outside and refusing to nap will wear you out eventually!!!

Loren, doing Daddy's hair!!! He's so pretty!!

Loren playing dress up and lovin' Guster!

Loren and Kaylynn, playing dress-up! They LOVE playing dress up!!!!!

Yup...they even dressed up Guster (sorry Amy and Chris)!!! :)

More dress up! (Kaylynn looked SO cute with that dress on and she knew it too)!!

Kaylynn's burns, you can kind of see the big blisters on her fingers.
